Sustain Your Community

Sustain Your Community

(Theme 1 – Transportation, Theme 2 – Energy, Theme 5 – Food)

Organization: EnviroCentre

Timeline for Completion: 2014-2017

Objective:

Sustain Your Community is a project that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, provide cost-savings for residents and support community engagement. Over the course of the project, Sustain Your Community will collaborate with residents in a total of six Ottawa communities and will draw on EnviroCentre’s strength as Ottawa’s go-to source of practical services and programs that help individuals and organizations conserve energy, improve environmental health and act more sustainably. The project is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Summary:

Over 3 years (2014-2017), Sustain Your Community will engage 6 Ottawa communities with energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable transportation & local food. There are three initial partner communities: Lowertown, Beaverbrook and Constance Bay, which will select 2 or more of the sustainability themes above, based on local priorities. Through the creation of Sustain Action Committees in each community, the project aims to empower residents in the distinct urban, suburban and rural communities to design and implement their own sustainability initiatives that result in long-lasting benefits for themselves and their neighbours. Please contact sustain@envirocentre.ca if you would like to find out more about joining a local Sustain Action Committee.
